TANZANIA

Stretching from legendary volcanic
highlands to the exotic tropical coastline and the spice island
of Zanzibar, Tanzania is the Africa of you wildest dreams.
Having scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro and
dived Zanzibar in February of 2000, this country and its’
friendly people hold a special place in my heart. Milko Conte

SERENGETI
NATIONAL PARK
The
Serengeti is arguably the best-known wildlife sanctuary in
the world. Adjoining to the Masai Mara on the Kenyan side,
the Serengeti is home to the huge migratory herds of wildebeest,
zebra and gazelle, which makes visiting the Serengeti in May
& June an unforgettable experience. Within the boundaries
of the park are more than 3 million large mammals, so game
viewing in the Serengeti is nothing short of spectacular. |

NGORONGORO
CRATER
The
Ngorongoro Crater, at 2,286m above sea level, is the world’s
largest unbroken caldera. Surrounded by very steep walls rising
610m, from the crater floor, this natural amphitheater covers
an area of 100sq miles – and is home to 25000 large
mammals, some trapped by the sheer walls of the crater. Known
as the worlds 8th natural wonder, this heritage sight is a
must see if visiting northern Tanzania.

MOUNT
KILIMANJARO
A
truly magnificent sight, a snow capped giant in the heart
of Africa. Standing at 5895m above sea level, Mt. Kilimanjaro
is the world’s highest freestanding mountain. At the
base the tropical heat is in great contrast to the arctic
cold at the summit, this makes the mountain a very unique
climb. Vegetation at the base consists of rain forest gradually
changing to savannah, mediterranean type shrubbery, moon surface
desolation and finally the 30m high glaciers permanently hanging
off the summit. Reaching the summit requires no technical
climbing, and is a hikers haven. A certain level of fitness
is required, but for the adventurous spirit, Mt Kilimanjaro
is a reachable dream. |
|
LAKE
MANYARA
Situated
in the shadow of the Great Rift Valley cliffs, Lake Manyara
boasts some interesting wildlife traits. In addition to the
hippo, giraffe and numerous other game and birds in the park,
Lake Manyara is home to the tree dwelling lions. Recommended
as a night stopover to the Ngorongoro crater and the Serengeti. |

| ZANZIBAR
Where
Arabia meets Africa, Zanzibar Island is situated 40km off
the shore of Tanzania. Also known as the Spice Island, Zanzibar
offers the visitor palm tree filled white sand beaches, tropical
climate and crystal clear, flat ocean. The waters surrounding
Zanzibar are teeming with coral reefs and marine life, that
snorkeling around the many smaller islands, opens your eyes
to a whole new world. Stone town on the western shore has
a 1220-year history of slavery and sultan rule. The reminders
of that bygone era is an interesting day tour, where one can
see and hear about the turbulent history of this unique island.
On e can see the definite Arab influence in the attitudes
of the locals as well as their dress and cuisine.
|
Zanzibar
is a scuba divers paradise (go to scuba
diving page) with numerous reefs surrounding the island,
and a little to the north, Pemba island with its’ untouched
natural splendour. There are a number of resorts along the
entire coast of Zanzibar that offer dive courses, so if you
want to learn, there is no better place to do so. |
