Outpost Safaris being based in Durban puts us in a
position to provide excellent vacations in the beautiful province.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in one province, has everything
a visitor would look for, big 5 game reserves, spectacular
mountain ranges, tropical climate and fantastic coastline,
wetland ecosystem and it is also the home of the proud Zulu
nation. |
DURBAN
& COAST
The
city with a carnival buzz, Durban has been South Africa’s
playground for many years. Life is never taken too seriously,
with the sundrenched beaches and warm Indian Ocean often being
preferred to an afternoon in the office. Durban has a mixture
of cultures; Zulu, Indian and European making it a unique
city to visit. The Natal coast is very tropical, with warm
weather all year round due to the warm Indian Ocean. Umhlanga
Rocks is probably the finest resort village near Durban –
with hotels, great beaches and loads of ocean activities.
The KZN coastline offers some of the best surfing anywhere
in the world.

THE INTERIOR
Home of the Zulu nation, with numerous historical sites
and battlefields, telling of a turbulent past. The Zulu’s
proud history may be rediscovered, including the exploits of
Shaka Zulu, the founder of this mighty nation. Isandlawana,
the site where the Zulu Impi (armies) defeated the British,
is still a popular tourist destination, as are the Zulu cultural
villages of Dumazulu and Shakaland. |
NORTHERN
KWAZULU-NATAL
Big 5 game reserves, preserved lake systems, wetlands,
dune forests and untouched natural beauty awaits the visitor
to South Africa’s best kept secret, Maputaland (north
KZN). Awe inspiring is the only way to describe this natural
marvel as 7 different ecosystems co-exist so close together.
The St. Lucia wetlands was recently proclaimed a world heritage
site, and justifiably so. Hluhluwe Game Reserve is the most
notable Big 5 sanctuary, and is home to the largest concentration
of white Rhino in the world. |
Sodwana
bay has the earth’s southernmost coral reefs, which attract
divers from all over the world. The lakes ( st.Lucia, Sibaya
and Kosi) will take you to a time when Africa was still waiting
to be explored.
Adventurers will love KZN as it provides some excellent
hiking trails, superb scuba diving and some of the best deep
sea fishing in the world. |
THE
DRAKENSBURG
South Africa’s most extensive mountain range
stretches along the interior of the country, forming a dramatic
escarpment between the coastal plains and high lying plateau.
Hikers and serious climbers are attracted to the dramatic
beauty and challenging trails waiting to be conquered.
For the Eco-tourist, being in this
landscape will take your breath away, with numerous waterfalls
and sheer Vertical Mountain faces.
Adventurers check the hiking page
for Drakensberg adventures with a qualified mountain climber,
